Right retroperitoneal splenosis presenting as an adrenal mass

چکیده
Ectopic splenic tissue may be congenital or acquired. Splenules can result from trauma or, less frequently, splenectomy, in which splenic parenchyma seeds accessible tissue to subsequently develop ectopic splenic tissue. This process of auto-transplantation is known as splenosis. Splenosis is a rare, benign condition most often found incidentally on imaging.1 Here, we describe a patient with a suspected adrenal malignancy successfully diagnosed as splenosis through Tc-99m labeled heat-damaged autologous red blood cell single-photon emission computed tomographycomputed tomography (SPECT-CT) imaging, thus avoiding surgical intervention.

Ectopic spleen is an autotransplantation of splenic tissue after traumatic rupture of the spleen or a splenectomy. Splenosis is easy to be misdiagnosed as a tumor, leading to unnecessary surgical treatment. Multiple splenosis growing in the right thora...
متن کاملRetroperitoneal Teratoma in an Adult: A Potential Pitfall in the Differential Diagnosis of Adrenal Myelolipoma
We report a 32-year-old female case of a right adrenal gland mass detected on CT scan at medical checkup. CT and MRI showed a mass of 5.1 cm made of fat and calcification in the right adrenal gland, leading to the clinical diagnosis of adrenal myelolipoma. Because of its relatively large size and the patient's desire, the patient underwent gasless single-port retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy ...

However, large pseudocysts may causes abdominal discomfort and have compressive effects on adjacent organs. They may rupture spontaneously or after trauma, and lead to retroperitoneal hemorrhage and surgical emergency. Herein, we report a case of 21-year-old female who presented with acute ...
